Anthropic files to sell shares in potentially record-breaking IPO
The San Francisco AI firm seeks to raise up to $100 billion, a figure that would exceed the previous record set by SpaceX.

The artificial intelligence industry is preparing for a major shift as one of its leading firms moves to go public. Anthropic, the San Francisco developer of the Claude chatbot, filed documents on Monday to sell shares to investors for the first time.
The filing paves the way for a stock market debut next month. Reports indicate the offering could raise as much as $100 billion US. If successful, that amount would break the current record for an initial public offering, which SpaceX set in June by raising $86 billion US.
This move positions Anthropic to enter the public markets before its main rival, OpenAI. Both companies are expected to have high-profile stock debuts, but Anthropic is currently ahead in the process. The company was valued at $965 billion US by private investors earlier this year. Analysts suggest the IPO could push that value to between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, though a final number has not been fixed.
At a valuation of $1.5 trillion US, Anthropic would rank among the most valuable public companies in the world, placing it in the same tier as Tesla. The stock will trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT.
The filing reveals the financial reality behind the rapid growth. The five-year-old startup reported a net loss of $80.7 billion US in the first half of 2026. This is a sharp increase from the $13 billion US loss reported in the same period last year. While revenue is growing quickly, the company has not yet turned a profit.
The IPO would provide the capital needed to accelerate expansion. It could also add billions of dollars to the personal wealth of CEO Dario Amodei and his sister and co-founder, Daniela. This follows an essay Amodei wrote a few weeks ago arguing for a slower pace in developing the most advanced AI models, even as he warned of potential existential risks to humanity.
The 335-page document outlines the company’s path to profitability while detailing its massive losses. The offering price and final valuation remain unconfirmed until the process is complete.
