Storms moved from the Atlantic into South Florida this morning, bringing heavy rainfall to the region. The activity concentrated over Broward County, an area that had already received substantial rain in the previous days. Saturated soil increased the risk of flash flooding as new precipitation fell.

Rainfall totals recorded over the last 24 hours show high accumulation in specific sectors. Collier Park reported 2.91 inches of rain, while Miramar recorded 2.70 inches and Pompano Beach logged 2.69 inches. Meteorologists noted these figures are preliminary and may rise as rain continues to fall in parts of the county. Isolated showers are expected to continue through the day, with higher chances in Broward and Miami-Dade.

Flooding disrupted travel in several Broward locations on Wednesday morning. North Dixie Highway near the Pompano Beach airport became a focal point for water accumulation. Police temporarily blocked a section of the highway due to poor road conditions. Drivers in some areas reported water reaching their ankles, forcing them to abandon their vehicles. Other affected areas included the Amerant Bank arena parking lot in Sunrise and the Sawgrass Mall. In Coral Springs, storm drains overflowed near the Modera apartment complex, and streets in Deerfield Beach also collected standing water.

Broward County Public Schools confirmed that classes would continue as scheduled on Wednesday. Some private schools made different decisions regarding operations. Authorities advised motorists to avoid flooded zones and seek alternate routes when possible.

A drier air mass is expected to move into the region starting Thursday. This change will bring more stable weather with a 10% chance of rain for the rest of the week. Maximum temperatures are forecast to hover around 86 degrees through Saturday.
