The Federal Bureau of Investigation reported on Wednesday that it arrested more than 47,000 violent criminals and gang members over the past 21 months. The agency stated this total represents a 67 percent increase compared to the final 21 months of the Biden administration.
FBI Director Kash Patel presented the figures as evidence of a major shift in enforcement strategy. He attributed the results to close cooperation with the Department of Justice and other law enforcement partners. "Over the last 21 months under the Trump administration's leadership and working alongside our Department of Justice and law enforcement partners, this FBI has delivered the largest reduction in violent crime in United States history," Patel said.
The agency also recorded growth in arrests for child sex predators and human traffickers. These numbers rose by 13 percent to just over 6,000 individuals. Patel cited a 30 percent decline in the national murder rate as another indicator of progress. He noted a 114 percent increase in arrests of violent crime suspects during the same period.
Drug enforcement statistics were included in the report. The bureau seized more than 4,600 kilograms of fentanyl. The agency calculated that this amount is sufficient to kill more than 350 million Americans.
High-profile fugitive cases also saw increased activity. Law enforcement captured 10 individuals from the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list. This figure is 2.5 times the number of apprehensions made over the previous four years. Additionally, six fugitives were caught from a newly created Most Wanted Fraudsters list within its first four months of operation.
The release of these figures follows a period of intense political scrutiny. During the Biden administration, Republicans frequently criticized the bureau for alleged political bias and government overreach. Patel acknowledged the agency entered the current term facing one of the highest threat environments in American history.
"This FBI and law enforcement responded by delivering in the biggest way they ever have," Patel said. "This is what happens with a President who backs the blue, an Attorney General who relentlessly prosecutes criminals, and good cops all over the country getting the job done."
