Alain Guevara Hernandez says armed men robbed his home in northwestern Miami-Dade County late Monday night, taking approximately $900,000 worth of jewelry. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on November 2 at a residence on 177th Street. Guevara, a local jeweler, told Telemundo 51 that the attackers beat him and threatened his wife and 21-year-old stepdaughter.
Surveillance footage shows several armed men entering the property and filling bags with watches, chains, and other items. In one clip, a hooded individual points a long gun toward the women. Guevara estimates the thieves took about 60 watches, between 50 and 70 chains, numerous bracelets, jewelry cases, and safes. He stated that he had been selling merchandise from his home to familiar clients and had become comfortable with the arrangement over time.
The jeweler recounted that the attack began when a man who had previously purchased jewelry from him arrived at the house. Guevara said the man claimed to be interested in buying a Cartier watch. "When he is inside, he pulls out a pistol and points it at me right there. I go to the back, and when I try to leave through the door, four more were coming," Guevara said. He added that the other individuals were hiding near the entrance and threw him to the ground when he attempted to escape.
Guevara described being struck multiple times in the head, eyes, and feet. "In a video, I said: 'I am dying, I am dying,' because there were so many blows to the head, to the eyes, to the feet," he recalled. He also noted that one attacker fired near his foot, though he did not say he was hit by a bullet. He showed injuries to his face and head that required surgical stitches. The footage captures the two women crying with their hands raised while one man points a long gun at them.
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office confirmed responding to a report of a home invasion. Officers found an adult man injured at the scene. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported him to a hospital in stable condition. Two adult women were also present in the home and were not injured. The MDSO Robbery Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities have not publicly confirmed the value of the stolen goods or announced any arrests.
Guevara said he plans to change how he operates his business. "I learned something that all my friends tell me: 'Yuma, you are fine, don't sell in the house,'" he said. He intends to open a dedicated jewelry store with greater security measures. He also addressed the man he believes initiated the robbery, saying he had treated him like a cousin. "What I ask you is to please turn yourself in to the authorities," Guevara added.
