A man broke the glass in a front door in the Lake Highlands neighborhood of East Dallas early Friday morning, leaving blood on the porch and prompting a police investigation. Jeff Jones, a resident who has lived in the area for more than two decades, stated that the incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. on October 30. He was asleep when the suspect struck the home, but his son was awake and alerted Jones through calls and texts.
Doorbell camera footage recorded the sequence of events. The video shows the suspect ringing the doorbell repeatedly while pacing on the front porch. After stepping away and returning, the man punched the glass window in the door, causing it to shatter. He then kicked the door several times before departing the scene. Jones described the aftermath as a traumatizing event, noting the blood left behind and the physical damage to the entryway.
Dallas Police are treating the event as a burglary, even though officers found no missing items inside the home. Jones filed a police report immediately after waking. The department identified a potential suspect on Friday but determined that the individual was not the person responsible for the break-in. Investigators continue to examine the case and review available surveillance data.
A second homeowner in the same neighborhood reported a similar encounter earlier in the night. That resident said the same man banged on his door and kicked it before leaving. He called for police, but officers did not arrive until 7 a.m. Despite the delay, the homeowner believes the timing and behavior match the incident at Jones' home.
Neighbors are sharing information about the suspect's appearance. Jones noted that several residents contacted him after he posted the footage on the Nextdoor app. Some claimed the same individual had visited their homes six months ago or even years prior. Jones said he hopes the suspect's distinctive facial tattoo or marking will help police identify him. He plans to install fencing around his property following the incident.
Jones expressed concern about the frequency of these events in the neighborhood. He stated that such incidents seem to be happening more often than they did a decade ago. The community is now on heightened alert, with residents promising to watch for the suspect and look out for one another.
