NASCAR has assembled approximately 150 vehicles for its fourth annual Block Party and Car Show, taking place today at Birmingham’s City Walk. The event is scheduled to run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to the public.
The gathering features cars from celebrities and influencers, along with entries from other states. Attendees can access racing simulators and view show cars. The site also hosts food trucks and local vendors, including Alicia’s Coffee. A specific zone is reserved for children.
Brandon Thompson, NASCAR’s Vice President of Growth, Engagement, and Inclusion, described the event as a key part of the organization's connection with local communities and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. He noted that the previous year's event drew about 1,500 people.
“We had about 1,500 people come out last year, a ton of food trucks, so it was a great opportunity,” Thompson said. “It’s really just a great time to bring out the kids, celebrate the classic weekend, and come out and see what NASCAR’s all about.”
The block party occurs during Magic City Classic weekend, following NASCAR’s recent race at Talladega Superspeedway. Thompson stated that the event allows the organization to strengthen ties in the Birmingham market while supporting the two HBCUs participating in the game: Alabama A&M and Alabama State.
“We know how much Birmingham means to Talladega as well,” Thompson said. “It’s a great time for us to come back with one of the city’s largest events, to be able to come and support both HBCUs here and support a lot of the things that we have going on just from an HBCU initiative across the board.”
The event concludes at 6 p.m. today. No further NASCAR community events are listed in the immediate schedule.
