A severe nor'easter that flooded roads and businesses along the Jersey Shore this weekend also canceled the Brick Township High School Marching Band's primary annual fundraiser. The storm forced the postponement of MusicFest, an outdoor competition that serves as the largest source of revenue for the Marching Dragons program.

The event typically brings multiple high school marching bands to the school grounds to perform. Because the competition was held outdoors, the weather made it impossible to proceed. This cancellation has created a direct financial gap in the band's operating budget.

Giovanni Mistretta, a member of the parent support organization Marching Dragon Caravan Inc., launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the lost revenue. He stated that the funds are necessary to keep the program running through the remainder of the competitive season. The money will pay for student transportation, safety equipment, instrument repairs, and uniforms.

Mistretta highlighted the dedication of the students in his appeal. He noted that the group practices for long hours during the summer and into the autumn evenings to prepare their shows. "These kids are some of the hardest-working students you can find," he wrote. The organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, meaning donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The funds raised will go directly to the expenses that were expected to be covered by ticket sales and fees at MusicFest. Mistretta said the goal is to allow students to finish their season without financial pressure. He emphasized that the storm should not undo the work the students have already put in during rehearsals.

The Marching Dragons compete in regional events and perform at local football games. The loss of this specific fundraiser impacts the ability to maintain instruments and provide necessary gear for these appearances. The campaign remains open to the public.

The nor'easter caused widespread disruption across the region, affecting businesses and transportation. While other local events were also canceled, the financial impact on the high school band is immediate. The group relies on this specific event to sustain its budget for the year.
