Shomari Figures opposed federal funding for local military upgrades.

The Mobile congressman cast votes against two key bills that allocated money for Alabama installations. His record shows opposition to final and initial passages of H.R.5371, the Fiscal Year 2026 Military Constructions and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act. He voted against the House version on September 19, 2025, and against final passage on November 12, 2025.

That single bill contained $169.4 million for projects across the state's military sites. Within Figures' second district, $28.4 million was designated for five projects at Fort Rucker. An additional $4 million was set aside for Maxwell Air Force Base.

Figures also rejected H.R.1968, the appropriations measure for the previous fiscal year. In July 2026, he voted against H.R.8800, the House version of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. That legislation included $44 million for a school expansion at Maxwell and $65 million to restructure housing initiatives for the Air Education and Training Command.

The voting history emerged as the congressman faces Republican nominee Rhett Marques in the general election. The race concludes on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
