Haris Rauf will take home less money this month because of a dispute with Will Jacks.
The International Cricket Council fined the Pakistan fast bowler 20 percent of his match fee. The ICC also issued a formal reprimand for conduct it called contrary to the spirit of the game. The incident happened during Sunday's One-Day International tri-series match.
Pakistan won that match by one wicket. Shadab Khan and Rauf put on 89 runs for the final wicket to chase down England's 242. Rauf hit the winning run to send his team to the series final.
The argument started at the end of the 46th over. Rauf appealed for a wide at the non-striker's end. He then raised his bat and argued with Jacks, an England all-rounder. Umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid gave Rauf a warning. Rauf kept talking and brushed past the umpire as he moved toward Jacks.
The ICC ruled that Rauf broke Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct for Players. This is a Level 1 offence. One demerit point was added to his record. He now has five points in total. This was his third offence in the last 24 months.
ICC rules say four demerit points in 24 months become two suspension points. Those points equal a ban from one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is. Rauf served a two-match ODI ban last year. If he reaches eight points, the bans double. England also lost money. The team was fined 15 percent of its match fee for finishing three overs short of its target.
Rauf and England captain Harry Brook accepted the sanctions proposed by referee Jeff Crowe. No formal hearings were needed. Umpires Rashid Riaz and Sharfuddoula, third umpire Wayne Knights, and fourth umpire Nassir Hussain brought the charges. Pakistan will play the final on Saturday.
