Torrential rain that began Monday night has left streets in Davie submerged and prompted flood advisories across parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
The flooding concentrated in the Paradise Village neighborhood, located off West State Road 84 near Flamingo Road. Local maintenance crews attributed the standing water to a nearby lake that overflowed due to the volume of rainfall. Video from the area showed several houses surrounded by water. Residents used cars and pickup trucks to move through the flooded streets to reach their homes.
One resident described the scene as the first time they had witnessed such flooding without a hurricane. They noted that traffic was difficult and driving to stores was miserable. Experts advise motorists to avoid driving through flooded streets to prevent vehicle damage. The neighborhood also houses a polling site that moved to Tree Tops Park on Tuesday morning because of the water.
Schools in the affected areas adjusted their operations in response to the weather. Broward County Public Schools confirmed that schools were open on Wednesday but excused tardies and absences due to the flooding. The district warned parents that they might experience delays when picking up children. In Plantation, American Heritage School switched to virtual classes for fourth through 12th grades on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The National Weather Service issued multiple flood advisories on Wednesday morning. In Broward County, an advisory covering areas along Interstate 75 and I-595 remained in effect until 10:30 a.m. This zone included Davie, Plantation, Sunrise, Cooper City, Pembroke Pines, and Miramar. In Miami-Dade County, three separate advisories were active. The first, expiring at 10:45 a.m., affected areas west of Miami International Airport along State Road 836 and the Florida Turnpike, including Sweetwater, University Park, and Westchester. A second advisory, valid until noon, covered Southwest Miami-Dade west of the Turnpike, listing communities such as Kendall, Richmond West, and Sunset. The third advisory, ending at 11:30 a.m., applied to Homestead, The Redland, Florida City, and Leisure City.
