Johnson County now operates a single zoning authority after the East and West Consolidated Zoning Boards merged on May 1, 2026. The unified body handles all public hearings and recommendations regarding zoning, land use, and township development. This consolidation ends the dual-board structure that previously split jurisdiction between the county's eastern and western sections.
The new board meets at the Johnson County Administration Building, located at 111 S Cherry St in Olathe. Sessions are held in the Board Hearing Room on the third floor. The standard meeting time is 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. The board does not convene if there are no agenda items listed for the session.
The Consolidated Zoning Board reviews site plans for new businesses and evaluates requests for rezoning or special property uses. It also considers applications to subdivide land into lots. The board issues recommendations on these matters to the Board of County Commissioners.
Residents and applicants who require sign language interpreters, oral interpreters, or other special accommodations must contact the office at least two business days before a meeting. The contact number is 913-715-2200, and the email address is planner@jocogov.org. The office handles requests for records, including agendas, applications, staff reports, and meeting minutes.
