Marquette University officials announced a series of institutional milestones in a message dated Nov. 2, 2026.
The university received the American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award for its volunteer legal services. This is the fourth time in 40 years that a law school has received the distinction. In 2025, volunteer attorneys and law students recorded more than 6,000 client visits for low-income and disadvantaged persons.
In August 2026, the Association of Jesuit College and Universities presidents held a pilgrimage in Rome. Last week, the Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus hosted a Higher Education Colloquium in Chicago. University leaders attended to discuss shared Catholic and Jesuit identity. The group reviewed insights from Pope Leo XIV and Jesuit Superior General Rev. Arturo Sosa, S.J.
Marquette is currently conducting a Mission Priority Examen. The process aims to reaffirm the university's Catholic and Jesuit mission. Dr. Stephanie Quade and Dr. Bill Fliss serve as co-chairs for the initiative. The university will hold dialogue sessions this fall to gather community input.
The campus is also hosting a year-long communal discernment exercise regarding artificial intelligence. Several events are scheduled for November. The initiative seeks to engage the Marquette community in discussions about the role of AI in higher education.
The Haggerty Museum of Art received the inaugural 25 Year Award from the American Institute of Architects on Oct. 2. The award recognizes the building's architectural legacy and its influence on Wisconsin's built environment. Pope Leo XIV commented on museums during a meeting with directors at the Vatican in October. He described museums as places of memory, beauty, and history.
Near West Side Partners held its annual fall meeting. The group includes Advocate Aurora Health, Harley-Davidson, Molson Coors, and Potawatomi Ventures. The partners plan to develop North 27th Street into a health and wellness corridor. Advocate Aurora will open The Beacon on 27th Street and Wisconsin Avenue in 2027. Marquette Dental School students will provide care to children with special needs through an externship at the facility.
The Presidential Address is scheduled for 12:55 p.m. on Nov. 9 in the Alumni Memorial Union Monaghan Ballrooms. The Liturgical Choir will perform at the start of the event. Amy Kaboskey, director of the Child Care Center, will retire in December after serving since the center opened in 1989.
