Miami women’s basketball returned to Watsco Center on Monday evening to win its season opener against Florida Atlantic, 75-48. The victory marked the start of a six-game homestand for the Hurricanes, who had previously ended their last season on this same floor.

Ahnay Adams led the team with 21 points, shooting 80 percent from the field and making both of her three-point attempts. She also recorded eight rebounds. Gal Raviv contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Soma Okolo provided 11 points from the bench on 5-of-7 shooting.

Freshman Anna Liepina started at center in place of graduated star Ra Shaya Kyle. Liepina scored her first collegiate points in the first quarter with a layup off the glass that tied the game at 2-2. Raviv and Adams then posted consecutive layups to give Miami its first lead, which the team held until the final buzzer.

The Hurricanes controlled the paint throughout the game. In the second quarter, Miami scored 16 of its 19 points inside the arc while limiting Florida Atlantic to just two points in the paint. This interior dominance helped the Canes build a 36-25 lead at halftime.

Miami extended its advantage in the third quarter, outscoring FAU 24-13. Adams hit a three-pointer during an 13-3 run that put the lead at 22 points. The Hurricanes finished the third quarter with a 60-39 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Miami held Florida Atlantic to three field goals. The Canes outscored the Owls 15-9 in the final period to close the game at 75-48. Miami shot 30 of 58 from the field, while FAU shot 17 of 54. The Owls missed 20 three-point attempts, compared to six for Miami.

The Hurricanes are set to return to action Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. against Jacksonville at Watsco Center.
