The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Tennessee Titans 43-36 on Sunday, recording a final score that had never appeared in the 107-year history of the NFL. This result marks the 1,098th unique final score in the league's record books.
Joe Burrow led the Bengals' offense to a historic performance. He passed for 462 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for a nine-yard touchdown. Burrow became only the second player in NFL history to achieve at least 450 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown in a single game.
The game reached its conclusion with the score still undetermined in the final minutes. With under four minutes remaining, the Titans held a 36-29 lead. Burrow then directed an 81-yard drive that ended with an 18-yard pass to Tee Higgins, tying the game at 36 with 1:17 left on the clock. In overtime, the Bengals gained possession first. Burrow completed four passes for 51 yards before running in for the winning touchdown.
The path to the unique score involved specific scoring sequences that altered the point differential. The Bengals gained a safety in the third quarter while the game was tied at 21, taking a 23-21 lead. The Titans responded with a touchdown to lead 28-23, but the Bengals retook the lead at 29-28. On that touchdown drive, Cincinnati elected to attempt a two-point conversion, which failed, setting up the later scoring patterns.
Receiving weapons Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase both finished with over 140 receiving yards. Burrow also threw three interceptions during the contest. This victory represents the Bengals' first unique final score in four years, their previous instance occurring in 2022 against the New England Patriots. For Tennessee, this is the first unique score since 2020, when they defeated the Detroit Lions.
