Jimmy Fallon transformed into documentary filmmaker Nathan Fielder during the Wednesday night broadcast of 'The Tonight Show.' The host used the format to interview guest Jamie Lee Curtis, who portrayed Elizabeth Holmes in a parody of the recent film 'You Can See Everything.'
The sketch focused on the intense interview style associated with Fielder. Fallon asked Curtis to be candid about her presence on the show. Curtis, wearing a blonde wig and maintaining eye contact, responded in a voice mimicking Holmes. She stated, 'Of course I do. I love talking to you.'
Fallon then questioned whether Curtis was solely present to promote her new series, 'Newlyweds.' Curtis replied that she was engaging with him 'as a human being.' She added, 'Why would I deceive you? There is no reason for me to do that. There is nothing for me to deceive you on.'
After asking if she was being real, Fallon concluded the segment by walking away. Curtis dropped her character immediately and shouted a profane remark toward the host. The cold open of the episode clarified that the appearance served as a promotional stop for the new sitcom.
'Newlyweds' is an NBC series that premiered on Oct. 23. The show stars Téa Leoni and Tim Daly. The logline describes it as a story about a free-spirited woman and a reserved professor who marry after a short courtship. Curtis appears in a recurring guest role.
Curtis co-created the series with Gail Lerner. Lerner was removed from the project earlier this month due to creative differences. In a statement released at the time, Lerner described the work as 'the most joyous TV experience of my life.'
The documentary being parodied, 'You Can See Everything,' opened in theaters on Oct. 16. It has earned $45.1 million in domestic box office revenue. Fielder and co-director Lance Oppenheim spent more than three years making the film, which depicts the month before Holmes began her 11-year prison sentence.
